How a query maps to categories, products and images
Every search goes through four deterministic steps: that is why the packshots you see always belong to the products actually returned, even for misspelled queries.
1 · Normalisation
Lowercase, accents stripped, punctuation cleaned and the query split into tokens.
2 · Correction
Each token is matched against the catalog's real vocabulary, so any suggestion always exists in the index.
3 · Mapping
Corrected tokens are expanded with synonyms and weighted across name, brand, category, tags and SKU to pick the dominant category.
4 · Imagery
The packshot is bound to the product ID (with a category fallback): never a generic image detached from the result.
